The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 722 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, and nine new deaths.
The state also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 17 more deaths to the statewide total. MDHHS says those people could have died days, or weeks ago.
Michigan now has 85,429 positive test results since the crisis began more than four months ago, and 6,247 total deaths.
The 722 new positive test results came out of more than 26,100 diagnostic tests added on Thursday.
The Upper Peninsula had 16 more cases added on Thursday, but two cases that had been added on Wednesday were removed, for a net increase of 14. There were four new cases reported in both Marquette and Menominee Counties, and three new cases in both Dickinson and Gogebic Counties. Delta and Iron Counties both added a single case.
Ontonagon and Mackinac Counties had cases removed.
The U.P. has seen 602 total confirmed cases since early March.
No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday. The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.
Statewide as of Thursday, there have been 9,227 “probable” cases, and 259 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.
The state reports 78 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula, as of Thursday.
As of Thursday, Michigan has completed 2,255,636 tests. Of those, 2,031,654 tests are diagnostic tests, and 223,982 tests were for antibodies.
The MDHHS last Saturday provided an update on the number of people who have recovered after testing positive or being diagnosed with COVID-19. State officials now say that 60,022 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset.
