Michigan Adds 557 Cases, 8 Deaths; Menominee Co. Adds 7 Cases

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 557 new coronavirus cases on Monday, and eight new deaths.

Michigan now has 87,960 positive test results since the crisis began more than four months ago, and 6,257 total deaths.

Monday’s 557 positive tests came from more than 21,000 diagnostic tests added to the state total.

The Upper Peninsula saw 16 new cases on Monday. Seven of them were in Menominee County, three positive test results in Luce County, and two each in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties.

Single new positive test results were seen in Iron and Marquette Counties, while a case was removed from Mackinac County’s total.

After the state report came out, Dickinson County reported five new cases, two of which were already included in Sunday’s state report. Those three additional cases are not included in the chart below, which exclusively uses MDHHS numbers.

The Upper Peninsula has a total of 675 cases since the crisis began in March.

No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Monday. The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.

The state reports 86 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula, as of Monday.

The MDHHS on Saturday provided an update on the number of people who have recovered after testing positive or being diagnosed with COVID-19. State officials now say that 63,636 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset. That’s an additional 3.614 recoveries in the past week. This number is updated every Saturday.

Statewide as of Monday, there have been 9,346 “probable” cases, and 269 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.

As of Monday, Michigan has completed 2,377,816 tests. Of those, 2,148,746 tests are diagnostic tests, and 229,030 tests were for antibodies.
