Michigan Adds 796 New Positive Test Results; 12 In Marquette County

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 796 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, and five new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added two more deaths to Michigan’s total. The MDHHS says those people could have died days or weeks ago.

Michigan now has 88,756 positive test results since the crisis began five months ago, and 6,264 total deaths.

Tuesday’s 796 positive tests came from more than 24,000 diagnostic tests added to the state total.

The Upper Peninsula saw 23 new positive test results on Tuesday, with 12 of them coming in Marquette County. There were four new cases in Menominee County, two each in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties, and single cases in Chippewa, Dickinson and Delta Counties.

Three cases that were added to Luce County’s total on Monday were removed on Tuesday because they were actually inside the Newberry prison, and not a part of community spread. Nearly 30 positive test results have been reported by the Michigan Department of Corrections inside that prison.

The Upper Peninsula has a total of 697 cases since the crisis began in March.

No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday. The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.

The state reports 97 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula, as of Tuesday.

Statewide as of Tuesday, there have been 9,457 “probable” cases, and 269 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.

As of Tuesday, Michigan has completed 2,402,909 tests. Of those, 2,172,898 tests are diagnostic tests, and 230,011 tests were for antibodies.

The MDHHS on Saturday provided an update on the number of people who have recovered after testing positive or being diagnosed with COVID-19. State officials now say that 63,636 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset. That’s an additional 3.614 recoveries in the past week. This number is updated every Saturday.
