Tragedy struck Friday afternoon in Alger County when an eleven-year-old boy died after being buried in the sand at a beach.
Michigan State Police says the boy was digging in the sand at the roadside beach near AuTrain at about 12:30 in the afternoon when it collapsed on him. Once the boy was freed from the sand, troopers started life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at Munising Memorial Hospital.
The family had been visiting from out of the area.
