Upper Peninsula Adds Handful Of Cases; No New Deaths

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 779 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, and 14 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added six more deaths to the statewide total.

Michigan now has 98,439 positive test results since the crisis began five months ago, and 6,417 total deaths.

The Upper Peninsula added a handful of cases on Tuesday, with four in Menominee County, two in Houghton County, and one in Chippewa County.

Three U.P. counties had cases removed from their totals: Mackinac, Keweenaw, and Gogebic.

The U.P. now has seen 913 total cases since the crisis began five months ago, and 18 deaths. No new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Tuesday.

The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.

Statewide as of Tuesday, there have been 10,198 “probable” cases, and 267 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.

The Upper Peninsula has had 140 “probable” cases reported as of Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, Michigan has completed 2,858,780 tests. Of those, 2,609,724 tests are diagnostic tests, and 249,056 tests were for antibodies.

The state also reported nearly 5,000 more recoveries on Saturday. The MDHHS says that 72,580 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset. That’s an additional 4,802 recoveries in the past week. This is updated every Saturday.
