Michigan Adds 695 New Positive Test Results; U.P. Numbers Rise

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 695 new coronavirus cases on Friday and six new deaths.

Michigan now has 115,387 positive test results since the crisis began back in March, and 6,638 deaths.

The state also has 12,113 “probable cases” and 316 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 44 new positive tests on Friday, with 15 reported in Houghton County and ten new cases in Marquette County.  There were eight new cases in Iron County and five new cases in Dickinson County (see separate story).

In the eastern U.P., Luce County reported six new cases.

Through Friday, the U.P. had 1,446 cases since the first report in March, and 23 COVID deaths. The U.P. also had 244 probable cases and no probable deaths.

As for hospitalizations, the U.P.’s ten hospitals had a combined three COVID patients plus two in an intensive care unit. This is as of Thursday. The MDHHS did not update this data on Friday.
