Marquette County officials have declared a local State of Emergency because of widespread flooding.
The declaration was approved by the Marquette County Board of Commissioners and signed by Chairman Joe Rerocha in a late Friday afternoon press conference.
They’re concerned about rising floodwaters due to heavy rain and rapid snowmelt. They’re asking Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to add Marquette County to the list of counties that have already been declared disaster errors on the state level.
Specifically, the county cited the Chocolay and Michigamme Rivers as trouble spots, along with the M-35 bridge over the Escanaba River in Gwinn.
A copy of the declaration is posted below.
