UPAWS is pleased to announce that the shelter has completed its quarantine period following a recent parvovirus outbreak and is preparing for a phased reopening.
The puppies affected by the outbreak have all tested negative and are doing well. Throughout the closure, UPAWS staff worked tirelessly to provide round-the-clock care, maintain strict isolation and biosecurity protocols, and protect the health of the shelter population.
UPAWS will follow a phased reopening plan:
- Tuesday, June 16 – Soft opening for cats and small critters, including adoptions, meet-and-greets, and intakes.
- Tuesday, June 23 – Planned full reopening, including dog adoptions, meet-and-greets, and intakes.
The shelter population remains healthy, and UPAWS will continue to monitor closely as it moves forward.
UPAWS extends its sincere gratitude to the community for the patience, kindness, generosity, and support shown throughout this time. From monetary donations and supplies to shared social media posts and words of encouragement, the community’s support allowed staff to focus on what mattered most: the animals in their care.
Over the next several days, staff will continue extensive cleaning and sanitization efforts throughout the facility in preparation for reopening.
UPAWS remains committed to the health and safety of the animals in its care and the community it serves.
