It will be Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson against Congressman John James in the race for Michigan governor in November.
Benson easily won the Democrastic primary on Tuesday, defeating Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, 84-percent to 16-percent. She was declared the winner by the major networks within an hour of the polls closing, and gave her victory speech at around 9:30 Tuesday night.
James won the hotly-contested Republican primary over businessman Perry Johnson. That vote was roughly 49-percent for James, 34-percent for Johnson, and 17-percent for other candidates that dropped out of the race but who’s names were still on the ballot (most of those votes went for Former Attorney General Mike Cox).
The networks called the race for James at just after 10:00, and he gave his victory speech at around 11:00.
