Due to increased humidity and lower temperatures, the fire activity on the Ridge Fire has settled down to the point that the DNR and Marquette County Sheriff’s Office have lifted the evacuation order for the residents on County Road 510 that were previously evacuated.
Additionally, the “Ready, Set, Go!” status for residents on North Basin Drive has now shifted back to “Ready” status. Residents are encouraged to continue to do the following:
Remove dry brush and debris within 30 to 100 feet of your home so firefighters can protect it
Plan an evacuation route
Pack an emergency bag including medications, important documents, and pet supplies
Monitor information from the DNR and Marquette County Emergency Management on social media and local news
Due to a shift in wind direction overnight, winds are now coming out of the north.
As a result, heavy smoke from the Ridge Fire, which is burning north of the Dead River Basin about 10 miles northwest of Marquette, and the Craig Lake Fire burning north of Craig Lake State Park, may be present in Negaunee, Ishpeming, Marquette, Michigamme, the surrounding areas and points south.
The presence of heavy smoke this morning is due to a shift in wind direction and is not a result of a significant increase in fire activity.
If you live, work, or are traveling in the area, be alert about the possibility of heavy smoke. Wildfire smoke may cause coughing, runny nose, or watery eyes. If you have any type of heart or lung disease, excessive wildfire smoke can be dangerous. You can reduce your exposure to wildfire smoke by planning activities indoors and limiting time outside when smoke is heavy.
Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
