The EUPMHC (comprised of Alger, Schoolcraft, Luce, Mackinac, and Chippewa Counties) held a graduation ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of five participants in Chippewa County Wednesday at the 91st District Court. The event marked the first graduation ceremony held in Chippewa County and included some of the original participants who were sentenced into the problem solving court when it launched in 2017.
The graduation, presided over by Judge Eric Blubaugh, highlighted the commitment that each participant showed though the duration of their eighteen to twenty four month term of probation and celebrated their successful completion of the mental health court program.
EUPMHC is a treatment court that focuses on mental health and substance abuse issues that can lead to contact with the criminal justice system and recidivism.
The program is grant funded thought the State Court Administrators Office (SCAO) and currently has 60 participants enrolled though out its operating region. Additionally the program focuses on ancillary components such as community service, educational, and employment needs.
