State Rep. Beau LaFave, of Iron Mountain, today said a plan from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to sell bonds for road funding isn’t new – and that seeking $3.5 billion in upcoming years won’t be any different except for the massive financial burden it lays at the feet of taxpayers for generations to come.
“This isn’t Washington, D.C. We are not in the business of forcing tomorrow’s Michiganders to fix today’s problems. The unborn are not a credit card. Just like every family in Michigan knows, if you want nice things you must pay for them. And maxing out the credit cards is not how you do it.
“Whitmer’s logic on the unborn is quite simple, ‘if I can’t kill them now, I suppose I could just tax them to death later.’”
State Rep. Beau LaFave, chair of the House Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee, proudly exercises his constitutional right to bear arms outside the House floor where Gov. Whitmer delivered her second State of the State address Wednesday night.
The second-term lawmaker has been a staunch advocate for Second Amendment rights, having sponsored legislation regarding criminal justice related to firearms as well as spearheading efforts to remove the sales and use tax on all firearms and ammunition.
“I open carried in the Capitol today to protest Governor Whitmer’s proposed unconstitutional gun laws,” LaFave said. “If she wants to disarm millions of responsible, law-abiding Michiganders who do not wish to have their constitutional right to bear arms trampled by this administration, she can start with me.
“This is not a show of force. It’s simply showing the governor an excerpt from our Constitution – one she consistently threatens through unconstitutional gun law proposals.”
