(Delta County Prosecutor’s Office)
Bobbi Jo Godfrey, 35, of Escanaba, was sentenced to 3 years to 20 years in prison for Possession of Methamphetamine as a Third Habitual Offender.
Godfrey was sentenced following a guilty verdict conducted by Judge Economopolous in October 2019.
On March 3, 2019, an officer from Escanaba Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Godfrey in the city of Escanaba. Godfrey consented to a search of her vehicle. In her purse, the officer located a Ice Breaker Mint container with a small ziploc baggie with crystal shards inside. A test of the substance determined it to be crystal methamphetamine.
Godfrey was also sentenced to 344 days in the Delta County Jail following the entry of a guilty plea to Possession of Analogues. Each sentence will be served concurrently to one another.
On May 13, 2019, while incarcerated awaiting trial on the possession of methamphetamine charge, corrections officers with Delta County Sheriff’s Office, MI conducted a search of female cell that housed Godfrey, as well as several other inmates. The search led to the discovery of Buprenorphine pills in the cell that had been brought in by another inmate. A drug test of Godfrey revealed that she had used the Buprenorphine while incarcerated.
At the time of sentencing, the Delta County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Wickman argued for a lengthy prison sentence due to Godfrey’s repeated drug convictions, and her use of dangerous substances in the jail.
