Michigan Adds 6,400 New Positive Tests; 77 In Marquette County

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 6,473 new positive test results and 59 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 25 more deaths to the total.

The Upper Peninsula added 215 new cases and two new deaths. Marquette County had the most new positive tests with 77 on Tuesday. Delta County added 25 cases and Dickinson County had 13 new positive tests. New deaths were reported in Gogebic, Menominee, and Ontonagon Counties.

The U.P. now has 8,091 total cases since the crisis began in March.

There have been 141 deaths reported in the U.P. during the pandemic.

Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.

For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.

The state also has 21,975 “probable cases” and 370 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The U.P. has had 1,242 probable cases and 26 probable deaths.

The state says that 128,891 people have recovered from the virus. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis. That is more than 7,500 new recoveries in the past week. That will be updated again on Saturday.
