Michigan Adds 6,000 New Positive Tests; 226 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 6,008 new positive test results and 42 new deaths.

The state now has had 229,285 total cases and 7,766 total deaths since the pandemic began eight months ago.

The Upper Peninsula added 226 new positive tests and six new deaths on Wednesday. Dickinson County added 71 cases, Marquette County added 46 cases, Baraga County counted 29 new positive tests, and there were 20 more in Menominee County.

Deaths were reported in Delta, Dickinson, Iron, Menominee and Ontonagon Counties.

The U.P. now has 8,317 total cases and 149 total deaths.

Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.

For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.

The state also has 22,587 “probable cases” and 370 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The U.P. has had 1,315 probable cases and 26 probable deaths.

The state says that 128,891 people have recovered from the virus. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis. That is more than 7,500 new recoveries in the past week. That will be updated again on Saturday.
