The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 7,458 new positive test results and 55 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 24 more deaths to the total.
The Upper Peninsula added 175 new cases on Tuesday, with 49 of those positive tests coming in Marquette County. Dickinson County reported two new deaths, while Marquette and Ontonagon Counties both had one new death reported.
The U.P. now has 9,759 total cases since the crisis began in March.
There have been 170 deaths reported in the U.P. during the pandemic.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
The state also has 24,806 “probable cases” and 383 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The U.P. has had 1,601 probable cases and 27 probable deaths.
The state says that 138,862 people have recovered from the virus. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis. That is nearly 10,000 new recoveries in the past week. That will be updated again on Saturday.
