The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Saturday reported 7,528 new positive test results and 42 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 59 more deaths to the total.
Michigan now has 302,745 comfirmed cases since the crisis began in March. The state also has recorded 8,478 deaths during that time.
On a positive note, MDHHS reported on Saturday that nearly 14,000 people (13,825) have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 152,267. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
The Upper Peninsula added 196 new cases on Saturday, with 61 of them coming in Marquette County. New deaths were reported in Dickinson, Baraga, and Ontonagon Counties.
The U.P. now has 10,677 total cases since the crisis began in March.
There have been 181 deaths reported in the U.P. during the pandemic.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
The state also has 26,316 “probable cases” and 397 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The U.P. has had 1,809 probable cases and 29 probable deaths.
