Michigan Adds 4,551 New Positive Tests; Upper Peninsula Adds 71 Cases

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 4,551 new positive test results and 71 new deaths.

These are two-day totals, as the state does not issue reports on Sundays.

Michigan now has 463,403 confirmed cases and 11,532 deaths since the crisis began in March.

The state also has 37,712 “probable cases” and 621 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 71 new cases on Monday, with 24 of them in Marquette County and ten each in Dickinson and Chippewa Counties.

New deaths were reported in Marquette, Menominee, Houghton, and Delta Counties.

The U.P. now has 13,857 confirmed positive test results, and 308 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,000 probable cases and 67 probable deaths.

Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.

For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.

MDHHS on Saturday reported its largest one-week total of recoveries as well. More than 48,000 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 284,731. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
