The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Saturday reported 7,341 new positive test results and 66 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them with previous positive test results. They added 188 more deaths to the total.
These are three-day totals, covering Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Saturday.
Michigan now has 477,269 confirmed cases and 12,029 deaths since the crisis began in March. The case count of 2,447 per day is the lowest in more than a month in Michigan.
MDHHS on Saturday more than 33,000 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 318,319. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
The state also has 39,057 “probable cases” and 661 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 140 new cases and four new deaths over the three-day period. Marquette County had 40 of those cases, Dickinson County added 23, and Chippewa County reported 20 new positive tests.
New deaths were reported in Dickinson, Marquette, and Ontonagon Counties.
The U.P. now has 14,088 confirmed positive test results, and 320 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 3,125 probable cases and 73 probable deaths.
