The remains of a U.S. Air Force pilot whose F-16 jet crashed last month in the U-P are back in Wisconsin.
Major Durwood “Hawk” Jones from the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th fighter wing died when his aircraft went down during a training session in a wooded area of eastern Delta County on December 8th. Jones’ remains arrived at Truax Field in Madison on Saturday to a hero’s welcome. A somber military procession took his Major Jones’ remains from the base to a funeral home for private services. The cause of the crash itself remains under investigation.
