Michigan Adds 1,700 New Positive Tests; 39 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday announced 1,738 new coronavirus cases and 41 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 540,115 cases and 13,865 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 47,333 “probable cases” and 870 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 39 new positive test results, with the most being 12 in Marquette County and 11 in Houghton County. No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday.

The U.P. now has 15,454 confirmed positive test results, and 348 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,708 probable cases and 81 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also is reporting that more than 27,000 people have recovered in the past week alone. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 442,408 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
