Michigan Adds 2,000 New Positive Tests; 74 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday announced 2,031 new coronavirus cases and 40 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 542,146 cases and 13,905 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 47,723 “probable cases” and 865 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 74 new cases, with 14 of them in Marquette County, 13 in Alger County, and 11 in Houghton County. One new death was reported in Ontonagon County.

The U.P. now has 15,528 confirmed positive test results, and 348 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,731 probable cases and 81 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also is reporting that more than 27,000 people have recovered in the past week alone. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 442,408 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
