The Michigan Senate on Wednesday has rejected one of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s appointees to the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees.
Whitmer appointed Jason Morgan of Ann Arbor. He is the chairman of the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners.
The Senate, on a party-line vote of 20-14, rejected Morgan as the political battle between the Republican Senators and the Democratic governor continues. The Senate also rejected the appointment of Andrea Dickson to the Michigan Tech University Board, as well as three other appointees. This follows the Senate disapproving of 13 other board appointees last week.
Michigan Republican leaders say they will continue to block Whitmer’s appointments under the ‘Advice and Consent’ clause as a way to get her to negotiate with them on the state’s COVID-19 response. Whitmer has said repeatedly that she will not “barter” with the legislature on public health matters.
