Michigan Adds 775 New Positive Tests; 20 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced 775 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday and 19 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 576,264 cases and 15,177 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 55,268 “probable cases” and 972 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 20 new cases on Tuesday, with Houghton County continuing to have the most with 11 new positive tests. Ontonagon County reported the U.P.’s only new death.

The U.P. now has 16,228 confirmed positive test results, and 378 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,956 probable cases and 91 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also is reporting that more than 19,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 517,991 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
