Michigan Adds 1,500 New Cases: U.P. Adds 2 Cases, 2 Deaths

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced 1,569 new coronavirus cases on Monday and 12 new deaths.

These are two-day totals because reports are not issued on Sunday.

Michigan now has a total of 589,150 cases and 15,534 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 58,265 “probable cases” and 985 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that more than 12,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 541,258 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.

The Upper Peninsula added two new cases: one each in Gogebic and Menominee Counties. New deaths were reported in Gogebic and Marquette Counties.

The U.P. now has 16,414 confirmed positive test results, and 386 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,007 probable cases and 92 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
