The Marquette County Health Department announced on Tuesday that the COVID-19 United Kingdom variant has been detected in a positive case in the county.
This variant is thought to be about 50-percent more transmissible, which can lead to more hospitalizations and deaths. The health department says that when the variant is detected in a community, “additional public health efforts are required to slow the spread.” The department did not specify if that meant more restrictions on gatherings, schools, or businesses.
