Michigan Daily Case Count Spikes To 6,300; U.P. Adds 61 Cases

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday reported 6,311 new positive tests and ten new deaths.

This is the highest daily case count in Michigan for all of 2021.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 61 new cases reported, with the most being 14 in Marquette County and 13 in Delta County. Houghton and Chippewa Counties added six cases each, and there were five reported in Dickinson.

No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Wednesday.

The U.P. now has 17,242 confirmed positive test results, and 398 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,510 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

Michigan now has a total of 672,259 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 16,092 deaths.

The state also has 74,092 “probable cases” and 1,027 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 569,480 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by some 7,000 people in the past week.
