Michigan Adds 6,000 New Cases; Upper Peninsula Adds 69 More

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday reported 6,036 new positive tests and 16 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 33 more deaths to the total.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 69 new cases reported on Thursday. The most were in Chippewa County with 16, followed by Marquette County with 14. Delta and Houghton Counties each added ten cases, and eight more were reported in Dickinson County.

There were no new COVID deaths reported in the Upper Peninsula.

The U.P. now has 17,311 confirmed positive test results, and 398 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,539 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

Michigan now has a total of 678,295 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 16,141 deaths.

The state also has 75,154 “probable cases” and 1,033 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 569,480 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by some 7,000 people in the past week.
