The Upper Peninsula’s unemployment rate dropped in February to 6-point-6 percent. That’s one full percentage point lower than the January rate of 7-point-6 percent.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget estimates that there were 86-hundred unemployed people in the U.P. in February, down by roughly 1,500 from January.
The improvement coincided with the re-opening of bars, restaurants, and other businesses in Michigan at the start of February.
The lowest unemployment in the U.P. was in Menominee County with 4-point-4 percent, followed by Dickinson County at 5-point-1 percent and Houghton County at 5-point-2. The highest was in Mackinac County at 17-point-5 percent. That was also the highest of all 83 Michigan counties.
