Michigan Adds Nearly 5,000 New Cases; Upper Peninsula Adds 43

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 4,964 new positive tests and 42 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 16 more deaths to the total.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 43 new cases reported on Tuesday. The most were eleven in Delta County and ten in Marquette County. There were no new COVID deaths reported in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday.

The U.P. now has 17,486 confirmed positive test results, and 400 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,647 probable cases and 96 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

Michigan now has a total of 707,463 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 16,297 deaths.

The state also has 78,660 “probable cases” and 1,046 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 577,141 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by almost 8,000 people in the past week.
