Michigan Coronavirus Cases, Deaths Continue To Rise; U.P. Adds 87 Cases

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday reported 7,819 new coronavirus positive tests and 30 new deaths.

State officials also looked through death certificates and matched them with previous positive test results. They added 43 more deaths to the total.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 87 more cases reported on Thursday. The most were in Marquette County with 28 new cases and Delta County added 24 new positive tests. No new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Thursday.

The U.P. now has 17,627 confirmed positive test results, and 400 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,754 probable cases and 96 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

Michigan now has a total of 723,297 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 16,400 deaths.

The state also has 80,734 “probable cases” and 1,050 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 577,141 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by almost 8,000 people in the past week.
