The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 2,527 new coronavirus positive tests and 75 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 51 more deaths to the total.
Michigan now has a total of 851,947 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 17,897 deaths.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 77 new cases reported on Tuesday, with 24 of them in Marquette County. Alger County added seven cases. No new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Tuesday.
The U.P. now has 19,286 confirmed positive test results, and 411 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.
The state also is reporting that 660,124 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by more than 34,000 people in the past week.
This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
The U.P. has had a total of 5,325 probable cases and 96 probable deaths.
Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
The state also has 96,905 “probable cases” and 1,158 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
