Around midnight last night, the City of Houghton Fire Department was called to assist numerous departments on a fast moving fire in the Village of Calumet. HFD responded with Ladder 4, Pumper 2, Pumper 1 and over 20 volunteers to help extinguish the blaze. Houghton remained on scene until 820am. We are very thankful for all of the community support throughout the night with water, Gatorade, and snacks.

FROM THE RED CROSS:
A multi-building fire affecting businesses and apartments located between 110 and 120 5th Street in Calumet caught fire, and displaced an estimated 30-50 people.
The residents who have been affected that we have been able to identify have been offered lodging. Currently 24 total people have been identified, and we anticipate this number will increase throughout the day and into tomorrow as affected residents learn that lodging and meals are available.
The American Red Cross is working with local emergency response partners to coordinate relief efforts as needed. We also have two real-life American Red Cross heroes on scene to help manage the relief efforts: Anita and Robert.
