Cases Slow To A Trickle Across U.P.; No New Deaths Reported

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 419 new coronavirus positive tests and 11 new deaths. These are two-day numbers, with no reports issued on Sunday.

Michigan now has a total of 890,764 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 19,376 deaths.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were six new cases reported since Friday’s report. No new deaths were reported over the last three days.

The U.P. now has 20,025 confirmed positive test results, and 435 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 5,637 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also has 104,643 “probable cases” and 1,224 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 837,864 people have recovered from the virus.

That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. That is an increase of 19,000 recoveries in the past week.
