Fresh Coast Film Festival has released its official 2021 festival schedule which includes over 100 films with 50 filmmakers in attendance. The festival will take place October 14-17. The official 2021 schedule and tickets are available now at freshcoastfilm.com.
Unique to this year’s festival:
- Actor and Comedian Joe Pera will debut a world premiere episode from his upcoming season three of Joe Pera Talks With You on Saturday, October, 16.
- Award-winning film director, producer and editor Elisabeth Haviland James will share her film on falconry Friday, October, 15.
- Fresh Coast Film Festival’s free kickoff event will be hosted at Ellwood A Mattson Lower Harbor Park.
- Participants will have the opportunity to participate in eight guided outdoor tours
This year’s kickoff event will take place on Thursday, October 14, at Mattson Park located in downtown Marquette. Festival director Aaron Peterson invites the Marquette community to help celebrate the resilience of the community by stating, “It’s so good to bring Fresh Coast back and feel the support of this fun, creative and curious community. Fresh Coast wouldn’t exist without the sponsors, filmmakers and volunteers that share so much with us. In that spirit, we begin every festival with our Fresh Coast Free community kickoff celebration. This year that event will be at Mattson Lower Harbor Park and we hope folks will join us to celebrate the resilient spirit of the Fresh Coast.” Kickoff celebrations will include film showings, live music, a rally car display, food trucks and a 5k run.

Venues: three theaters at the MATI, Ore Dock Brewery, Peter White Library Community Room and Mattson Park downtown Marquette.

Throughout Fresh Coast’s five year history, the festival has inspired attendees to interact with the landscape of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in new ways. A key component of the Fresh Coast experience will be guided outdoor activities to introduce visitors to the outdoor playground of the Marquette area. Rock climbing, a variety of scenic hikes and even a harbor boat tour will all be offered as part of the Fresh Coast weekend.
This year, Fresh Coast Film Festival is presented by its title sponsor, Make It Marquette. Make it Marquette is a talent recruitment and retention campaign that was launched by Innovate Marquette SmartZone earlier this year, with the goal of providing residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with better job stability. “Fresh Coast Film Festival is a celebration of the outdoor culture, lifestyle, and innovation that is uniquely found right here in Marquette, MI,” states Joe Thiel, CEO of Innovate Marquette. “When people imagine life in the heart of the Upper Peninsula, this is what they can picture.”
