The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget will coordinate the harvest of the official 2021 state Christmas tree Wednesday along US-2 in the western U.P. town of Marenisco.
The 63-foot spruce is being donated by Gayle and Carla Fletcher and their family. A brief ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. Central time, weather permitting.
It will include remarks from Bruce Mahler, Marenisco Township supervisor; Denny Olson, Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association; Jeff Canfield, DTMB; representatives from the offices of U.S. senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow and State Sen. Ed McBroom.
Music will be provided by the Watersmeet, Ironwood, and Wakefield school bands. The tree will be cut down by the Michigan Association of Timberman, and Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association.
It will be taken from Gogebic County to Lansing, where another ceremony will be held at the Capitol Saturday morning at 8:30.
