The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday that it will have a stepped-up presence at area schools on Monday after some vague threats were noticed on social media against schools in the area.
Authorities call the threats “unsubstantiated” and amount to “rumors”, but nevertheless will be on hand at the schools to make sure. This comes two weeks after the tragic shooting at downstate Offord High School, which has been followed by dozens of threats at schools both in the Upper Peninsula as well as Metro Detroit.
The Houghton County Sheriff says that each threat of violence will be taken seriously and will be investigated.
There have been other threats within the past week in Munising, Newberry, and Sault Ste. Marie that have led to school closures.
