Marquette County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH) is seeking new applicants for their New Construction Program for 2022. With rising rent and home prices, housing affordability is a key issue facing many households in Marquette County. Becoming a Partner Family with MCHFH is one way to realize homeownership in an affordable way.
This program is for low-to-moderate income households and is open to both families and individuals.
The process from application to move in can take around 12-18 months or longer. If selected, each adult in the household is expected to contribute 250 hours of sweat equity, or invested time, into the project by working alongside MCHFH staff and volunteers to construct their home. Upon completion, the Partner Family purchases the home with an affordable mortgage. Keeping home sizes and materials modest, utilizing volunteer labor, and proceeds from ReStore sales help to offset the cost of construction to achieve an affordable mortgage.
For more information on the New Construction Program or how to apply, call the Habitat main office at (906) 228-3578 or stop in the office at 2354 US 41 South, Marquette. Details and applications are also available online at www.mqthabitat.org/new-home-construction
