The Northern Michigan University Department of Athletics has announced the Scholar-Athletes of the Month for December 2021. Student-athletes are nominated by a Northern Michigan University faculty member and chosen by the Athletic Council.
Starting during the 2017-18 school year, one male and one female athlete are awarded Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Andre Ghantous – Men’s Hockey
Andre Ghantous was selected as a recipient of the December 2021 Scholar-Athlete of the Month. He is a member of the Men’s Hockey team. He is majoring in Applied Exercise Science/Health Management. He was nominated by Professor Claire Smith from the Department of Biology.
During the current 2021-22 season, Andre has already assisted in 15 points and found the back of the net for six goals.
Andrea Perez – Women’s Basketball
Andrea Perez was selected as a recipient of the December 2021 Scholar-Athlete of the Month. She is a member of the Women’s Basketball team and is majoring in Accounting. She was nominated by Dr. Stacy Boyer-Davis of the College of Business.
During the current 2021-22 season she has assisted the ‘Cats in earning 24 points and has played for 136 minutes.
The students will be recognized during halftime at the NMU Men’s Basketball game on Monday, January 31, 2022.
