Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed her third gun control package of the year, Red Flag Gun Confiscation, into law. She previously signed pieces of legislation dealing with expanding background checks and gun storage requirements.
Michigan is the first state in nearly three years to pass Red Flag Gun Confiscation and the 20th state overall.
“Red Flag laws are gun confiscation without due process, pure and simple. Getting a hearing after your property is stolen by the state is not due process,” said Brenden Boudreau, Executive Director of Great Lakes Gun Rights.
“As we have seen in other states so-called “Red Flag” laws are ripe for abuse. Abusive partners, and criminals will use “Red Flag” laws to disarm their partners, neighbors, and potential victims. And “Red Flag” laws target law-abiding citizens who have not committed a crime, in other words, it’s an unconstitutional “pre crime” program like you’d expect to see in a dictatorship,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.
The legislation will go into effect 90 days after the end of the legislative session.
