A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday at the site of a new branch office for Embers Credit Union in Escanaba. The new facility will be located at 2325 Ludington Street, next to the Dominos Pizza store on the city’s west side.
“It is our first-ever, from the ground up, retail space,” Embers Marketing Director Dylan Bloniarz told RRN News Wednesday afternoon. “We want it to be unmistakenly-Enbers. So, when you walk in, you’ll be able to smell the same smells that you smell across all of our branches. You’ll be able to see all of the same artwork and topography on the walls. You’ll see all of the orange-painted lines in the parking lot. When you walk in, you’ll have a true sense of warmth, just like an ember.”
The goal, he says, is to open this new building in November, 2027. The lead architect on the project, Matthew Turk at St. Louis-based New Ground International, says they’re working hard on it.
“We’re kind of digging through, and the new foundation is ready to go in,” Turk told RRN News. “We were ready go in but discovered some hiccups, and that’s to be expected on projects. You can never quite plan for everything. We’re, right now, in kind-of a standstill because of some of the foundation issues going on. But, we’re getting going, and we’re trying to get the building going up before the winter starts.”
Bloniarz says the credit union is happy to be a part of the growth of Escanaba.
“We are the largest headquartered (financial) institution in the UP now,” Bloniarz said. “We’re excited about that. There’s so much momentum in Escanaba with new developments and we are excited to be a part of that momentum right now.”
Bloniarz says the goal is to open sometime in November of 2027.
