“September 23rd is also the autumn equinox, so it’s a great time to celebrate fall,” festival organizer Kelsey Wermager told RRN News. “All the leaves are changing colors. It’s just a full day of fun for community members, and for people from throughout the U.P. Definitetly to get the community together, showcase some local artists.”
There will be 45 artists, organizations and businesses vending goods in the baseball field, as well as a Cemetery Tour guided by folks from the Marquette Regional History Museum. We’ll have bounce houses for kids, adult games like Giant Jenga, Connect 4 and cornhole, mobile saunas, raffles, prizes, face painting and more!! The Big Bay Stewardship Council is a nonprofit organization who strive to make Powell Township a great place to visit and live.
“We are mostly volunteers,” Wermager said. “It’s our bigest fundraisewr of the year. Through this event, we help to make community improvements in Big Bay, like signage for the trail system. All the money that’s raised stays in the community.”
She says they are still accepting last-minute vendors from any that would still like to take part.
“This year, we’re just asking vendors to provide their own tents, and to make a small donation to the Big Bay Stewardship Counci,” Wermager said.
The BBSC currently has several projects in progress, all promoting community improvements through responsible, properly scaled economic development and stewardship of the natural resources. The BBSC is always looking for new members that help represent the entire community, including businesses, natural asset managers, full-time residents, second-home owners and Marquette County residents with assets in Big Bay.
