Representatives from the Dickinson County Road Commission, Michigan Technological University and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday to mark the beginning of a project in Iron Mountain designed to demonstrate the benefits of using recycled tire rubber in asphalt in a cold climate.
Recycled tire scraps are potentially paving the way to future roadways, through a $650,000 grant partially funded by EGLE.
The research project, which began last week, has paved three sections of a county road using varying combinations of conventional asphalt and recycled rubber tires.
The ceremony will take place Friday at 11:00 Central, along County Road 607, at the south end of Twin Falls Access Road, in Iron Mountain.
