The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) awarded grants at their annual Grant Presentation and Scholarship Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, June 6th.
This event gives the MMACF an opportunity to celebrate the generosity of fund advisors, the commitment of volunteers, the support of Sponsors, the great work of grant recipients and the accomplishments of the students who receive Foundation scholarships.
Last night, MMACF grant partners throughout Marinette and Menominee counties received funding for 48 programs and projects from our Spring Grant Cycle funds: Peshtigo Area Foundation, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Community Wide, Youth Field of Interest, Community Health Care, Twin Counties Emergency Service Providers and Homelessness Prevention Services.
Funding was provided to the following organizations and projects by the Peshtigo Area Foundation Fund: City of Peshtigo Fire Department for cold water survival suits and the Peshtigo School District for a trailer for the SkillsUSA Team.
Grants provided by our other Spring Grant Cycle funds include:
- The Athelstane Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of thermal imaging cameras.
- Carney-Nadeau Public School to provide parents and students with resources as part of their Early Literacy Parent Program.
- The City of Marinette Recreation Department to host a “Dive-in Movie” at the Civic Center Pool. In addition, they will establish a new Summer Day Camp Program at the REC Center.
- Clip-Clop Trail Riders for the purchase of picnic tables and fire rings for horse campsites in Pembine and Middle Inlet.
- Pembine Area Christians for their Christmas Wish and Snack PAC Programs.
- Communities that Care for student handbooks and training for new facilitators as part of their Botvin’s Lifeskills Training Program. In addition, Communities that Care will purchase training manuals and pay for expenses for the Strengthening Families Program geared toward improving parenting skills and family relationships.
- Crivitz Area Woman’s Club for school supplies, clothing and hygiene products for students.
- The Dementia Friendly Community Coalition to purchase supplies and materials to educate people and raise dementia awareness as part of their Purple Angel Initiative Program.
- Crivitz School District for a five-day immersion trip to Camp Bird for all 6th grade students.
- Haven of Hope to install new windows in their homeless shelter.
- Peshtigo School District for the High School Girls Soccer Team.
- Goodwill Industries’ to buy fitness equipment for residents who face intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities.
- The YMCA to construct and install a Bocce Ball Court and to expand their Gymnastics Ninja Course.
- Healing Patriots Corp to buy life jackets and fishing equipment for local veterans.
- The Healthy Youth Coalition to host drug and alcohol abuse prevention assemblies at high schools in Marinette and Menominee Counties and for the Marinette County Imagination Library Program.
- Libertas to expand their community outreach efforts to raise awareness about the availability of substance use disorder treatment services in Marinette County.
- Marinette County 4-H to improve the horse barn at the Marinette County Fairgrounds.
- Great Start Collaborative for literacy events across Menominee County and for playground equipment at the Menominee Intermediate School District building.
- Marinette County Elderly Services to provide oral hygiene kits to homebound persons currently receiving home delivered meals. A second grant will help purchase commercial food processors for the Marinette and Crivitz Senior Dining Centers.
- Marinette Fire Department for medical equipment in order to be more efficient when providing medical emergency services.
- The DAR Boys & Girls Club for their After School Adventure and Summer Day Camp Programs.
- Marinette School District to support their Student Senate Senior Citizen’s Day.
- Menominee County Fair to bring a lumber jack show to the Fair.
- Menominee County Library in Hermansville to purchase materials needed to build a “Book Trail” where people can walk along and teach their children the joy of reading.
- River Cities Community Pool to replace pool fitness equipment and to support their Kids Triathlon.
- Menominee Area Public Schools for their Junior/Senior High School Robotics Team.
- SCORE to hold local workshops to benefit community members interested in opening a new business or non-profit.
- Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Menominee County to support and expand their base of volunteers.
- St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marinette for containers to recycle unusable clothing.
- Tri-County Safe Harbor to provide assistance with Personal Protection Order fees and transportation costs and to support youth outreach and advocacy.
- The West Shore Fishing Museum to build a boardwalk to reach Rochereaux Point Beach.
- St. Joseph Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for back to school supplies and Christmas gift baskets for area children in need.
- UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Office of Continuing Education for expenses associated with the Children’s Theatre Production of Frozen Jr. and Summer Teen Theatre Camp.
- Wausaukee Back to School Program to provide backpacks, school supplies and hygiene products to students in need.
In addition to grant recipients, the MMACF June 6th Recognition Ceremony honored students, both high school and non-traditional, for their academic achievements. The Community Foundation has awarded 66 scholarships this year, totaling over $100,000.
