LMAS District Health Department is investigating a sewage discharge in South Manistique Lake.
LMAS has contacted the Michigan DNR as work continues to find the source of the discharge. The lake is currently being tested for e-coli levels.
Diseases acquired from contact with contaminated water can cause gastrointestinal illness, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, and wound infections. Anyone exhibiting symptoms should contact their local health care provider. Until the water samples are analyzed at the lab, LMAS District Health Department is currently issuing an alert, discouraging contact with the water in South Manistique Lake, especially in the areas near Wolfe Road and Long Pointe Road, but caution should be used in other areas of the lake as well.
