The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced 1,067 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday and 12 new deaths.
State officials went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 12 more deaths to the state’s total.
Michigan now has a total of 590,217 cases and 15,5358deaths since the crisis began last March.
The state also has 58,840 “probable cases” and 986 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 20 new cases Tuesday, with ten of them in Delta County and six in Marquette County. No new deaths were reported.
The U.P. now has 16,433 confirmed positive test results, and 386 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.
The U.P. has had a total of 4,017 probable cases and 92 probable deaths.
Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
The state also is reporting that more than 12,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 541,258 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
