The Marquette County Health Department says it is worried about the COVID-19 variant that was detected in the county earlier this week. Medical Director Bob Lorinser says the person and another closely related person, had no travel to the United Kingdom, where the strain originated. But there was travel to Delta County, so he believes there has been community spread of this variant, which is considered to be 50-percent more transmittable.
The health department believes this might be the reason for a recent increase in positive test results in Marquette County, which the department earlier this week also attributed, in part, to sporting events and church activities.
The MCHD announced enhanced contact tracing efforts on Thursday as well as more guidelines for local health care providers and laboratories to follow.
