Michigan Adds 9.600 New Positive Tests; 69 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 9,674 new coronavirus positive tests and 12 new deaths.

These are two-day totals because reports are not issued on Sundays.

The state also is reporting that 587,283 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by more than 10,000 people in the past week.

This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 69 new cases reported on Monday. The most were in Marquette County with 24 new positive test results. Delta County, which has the highest percent positive rate in the U.P. at 12-percent, added 16 new cases. Houghton County added eleven cases and Chippewa County had ten.

One new death was reported in Marquette County.

The U.P. now has 17,928 confirmed positive test results, and 402 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 4,839 probable cases and 96 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

Michigan now has a total of 747,697 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 16,512 deaths.

The state also has 83,260 “probable cases” and 1,064 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
