Michigan Adds 2,700 New Cases; 55 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 2,716 new coronavirus positive tests and 33 new deaths.

These are two-day totals, as no reports are issued on Sundays.

Michigan now has a total of 865,349 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 18,239 deaths.

The state also is reporting that 703,746 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by more than 43,000 people in the past week.

This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 55 new cases added over the past two days. Nineteen of them were in Chippewa County. No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula.

The U.P. now has 19,540 confirmed positive test results, and 417 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 5,407 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also has 99,594 “probable cases” and 1,172 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
