Michigan Adds 1,766 New Positive Tests; 43 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday reported 1,766 new coronavirus positive tests and 33 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 873,335 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 18,500 deaths.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 43 new cases reported Friday, with the most being six apiece in Delta and Mackinac Counties.

No new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Friday.

The U.P. now has 19,705 confirmed positive test results, and 423 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 5,485 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also has 101,513 “probable cases” and 1,178 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 703,746 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms.
